Cartographers at work! Over the past several days, our 7th graders have been hard at work creating their own Roman cities! Students combined elements of Roman culture, architecture, government, and daily life with what they have learned about several Roman emperors to design and map their own cities.

In their study of molecular compounds, sixth graders observed the property of cohesion by water. They tested how many droplets of water they could place on the face of a coin. Valentina placed 104 droplets on a quarter with observation verification from Noah and Brody.

What an incredible day of volleyball at home! We had three teams take the court today and ALL THREE TEAMS BROUGHT HOME THE WIN! Not only did our Phoenix teams play great volleyball, but they played as a TEAM. We saw incredible communication, encouragement, hustle, and determination all day long. 3 Games. 3 Wins. 1 Amazing Phoenix Family.

⛪️SDJCA FAMILY MASS⛪️ Thank you to our students, teachers and families who attended our first FAMILY MASS of the school year today. It was wonderful seeing our school community come together at Sunday Mass. Our servers, lectors and Choir members led a beautiful Mass. Our next SDJCA Family Mass is October 18th at 9:30am Mass at St. Dennis Church. Join us! We are SDJCA.

On Saturday, the SDJCA cross country team ran through the rain and the mud in Bourbonnais. All runners that participated earned ribbons for their finishes in their respective races. Earning ribbons in the top 25 race (Flight 1) were Brody 2nd, Liam 14th, and Claire 11th; Brody’s finish was the highest for an SDJCA runner ever in an SPL race. Runners earning ribbons in flight 2 were Luke 14th, Luca 13th, Jerrick 14th, Morgan 7th, and Gianna 12th. Way to go, Phoenix!

4th graders experimented with potential energy, kinetic energy, and transfer energy while investigating Newton's Cradle and stretching rubber bands. They used their arms to demonstrate how energy moves through Newton's Cradle.

Our 8th graders attended the Mass of the Holy Spirit this morning at the Cathedral of St. Raymond, celebrated by Bishop Conlon. This Mass is celebrated at the start of each academic year, invoking the guidance, wisdom, and gifts of the Holy Spirit for our students & school staff.

“Take and read out from the lapis lazuli tablet how Gilgamesh went through every hardship…” Today in Social Studies, 6th graders read an excerpt from the Epic of Gilgamesh, the oldest known surviving literature and the Code of Hammurabi, the world's first law code.

How does the height of a ramp affect the speed and energy of a rolling toy car? Fourth graders worked in groups to experiment and find out in science class! 🚗💨

🎶 RHYTHM HOPSCOTCH🎼 In K-3 Music classes, students took turns traveling through the rhythm course, while the rest tapped the rhythms with rhythm sticks to keep them steady.

Today, our 8th graders listened to presentations from our local Catholic high schools: Benet Academy, Bishop McNamara, Joliet Catholic Academy and Providence Catholic. There is also a diocesan event tonight in Lisle.

The 6th Graders used Play-Doh and a popsicle stick to write their names in cuneiform, the Ancient Mesopotamian writing system. This was the first writing system in the world, and they had a blast bringing history to life!
