PreK4 early learners worked together to color large hearts. Ms. La read the book
Chrysanthemum and demonstrated what happened to Chrysanthemum’s heart during the story
when she heard unkind words. The heart crumbled. Now the paper heart was wrinkled. Even though
kind words laid bandages on the wrinkled heart, it did not erase the lasting effects of why it is
important to stop and think before we speak. It was also shared how each of our names are unique
and valuable just as God intended for us. With this interactive activity, the children had an
opportunity to learn about the impact of our words. At SDJCA, our hope is that they remember this
virtue long beyond our classroom walls.
